THE ISLAND
Puerto Rico, Jan. 2018 — Feb. 2019
It’s 3am and dark as midnight. The ocean breeze flows in from the water, across my balcony, through the mesh mosquito net doorway, and gently wakens me in my bed. The sound of waves, usually soothing, portend a wave of another sort in this early morning hour.
My slumber was peaceful, restful. And I’m now wide awake with the answer that I sought when I laid my head to pillow just a few hours earlier.
